Portrait Photography with Sanaz

Wyatt Ramsey | Savannah Photographer

The great thing about going to an art school is meeting all kinds of wonderful people from around the world. This week I photographed my good friend, Sanaz. In this shoot I hooked up two speed light flashes to a small softbox and one umbrella to create a smooth light gradient.

location: my apartment

In these experiments I was practicing with my new umbrella to diffuse the flash of my speed light.  I set my camera to F6, iso 100, and 1/64 sec with my speed light on M 1/32 sec. To make this shoot instant fun I threw my dog at my roommate and had her try to keep him still. It was great.

Flash Experiments with Sujay

Wyatt Ramsey | Savannah Wedding Photographer

My apartment

Tonight, I am testing out my Speedlight 580 EXII on my roommate Sujay for portrait practice. The shoot was simple enough. I asked him to smoke a Hookah in his favorite chair. I exposed for the fastest flash speed, 1/128, and set my camera at 1/200 on f-stop 7.1 with an iso of 100. Then I set the flash off camera to Sujay’s right a little above eye level. Fun stuff.

Nick and Emily | Savannah Wedding

Savannah Station Banquette Hall | Savannah, Ga

2nd Shooter: Katie Irene Hester

Hair and Make-up: Heather Ferguson

Emily and Nick had a very romantic wedding with patriotic overtones. As we walked through the spanish moss of downtown Savannah we stopped at every beautiful nook along the way to capture the glorious day’s aesthetic. Both Nick and Emily couldn’t have been more relaxed and ready for a good time. We arrived in the trolly at the ceremony too meet everyone’s good spirits and melodic music to begin. The day was seamless.

On a side note: It is not everyday one gets to shoot a wedding for a bride who has had a career in event planning. Emily juggled the events, friends, vows, planning … all with a fun exuberance that would make anyone smile. As a wedding photographer I felt privilege to learn from such a pro.

The Lady and Sons | Savannah, Ga

You know all those jokes about lawyers. They are not true. Asim and Melissa are a case in point. The two lovebirds met in law school and have partnered together in life and love to fight the injustices of the world.

Their wedding took place in Renald’s Square in Savannah, GA, a few block down from the Lady and Sons restaurant where the reception took place. The food was excellent and the dancing never stopped.

Pink House | Savannah, Ga

There was laughing, a lot of laughing. Candice and Victoria love to laugh which is suiting because they are both comedians by trade and where the two first met. The wedding was elegant, colorful, and a lot of fun. These wedding photos were taken in the historical Pink House in downtown Savannah, Ga.

Michael and Tara | Savannah, Ga Wedding

Avia Hotel in Savannah, GA

One of the most essential ingredients to great wedding photography is the ability to let loose and have fun. That is just what Michael and Tara did. As we walked outside towards city market to take group photos, Tara looked at me and then the water fountains shooting out of the ground and smiled. Yes, I nodded back, great idea. She hiked up her dress and unbeknownst to her man, grabbed his hand and darted toward the fountain. I love these photos because they capture a couple so excited about their day that nothing would stop them from enjoying it, not even wet wedding clothes. Shortly after these photos were taken the couple was whisked off with some new dry clothes on the way to their honeymoon.
